Traffic Violations in Concord
The Law Office of John R. Nance, P.A. handles a wide range of Concord traffic violation cases, including DWI and drunk driving, speeding, and other moving violations.

Motorists receiving NC traffic violations and speeding tickets are subject to two North Carolina point systems—one for driving points and one for insurance points. Seeking legal help to reduce Concord traffic violation penalties can spare you from substantial fines, loss of license, insurance rate increases, and more severe consequences in serious offenses, such as imprisonment.

Concord, NC driving points system
The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles keeps records of all traffic violation convictions and auto accidents. Motorists with traffic violation convictions receive driving points based on a schedule ranging from one to eight points. Six and eight point values are only for commercial driver violations.

The schedule assigns five points, the highest non-commercial drivers’ violation, for two offenses—passing a school bus and aggressive driving. Reckless driving, hit and run (involving only property damage), and illegal passing are examples of the four point values. Failure to secure a child in a seat belt is an example of the lowest point violation, incurring two points.

License suspension occurs when a driver totals 12 points or higher within three years. Under the point system, the first maximum license suspension is 60 days, the second is six months, and additional suspensions are up to one year.

Concord, NC insurance points system
The North Carolina General Assembly passed the Safe Drivers Incentive Plan (SDIP) which has an insurance points system for traffic violation convictions and at-fault auto accidents. The points apply to the three-year period immediately prior to the submission date of an insurance or insurance renewal application.

The system ranges from one to twelve points, with twelve point values assigned for vehicular manslaughter or negligent homicide, hit and run causing bodily injury or death, DWI, and other serious violations. One point, the lowest value, is assigned to moving violations or at-fault accidents causing property damage at $1500 or less and bodily injury valued at $500 or less.

Insurance companies base rate increases on the SDIP point system.
